What to Expect

What sessions look like

Therapy is a space where we can really think and explore together. I will do my best to learn how you see the world and what life is like for you. I do this by listening, clarifying, reflecting back and checking in with you. I don't give advice, but might gently challenge you or make suggestions as to what to explore. But in the end, this is your therapy and you decide where we go.

You might not always know what to talk about and that's absolutely fine. I will give you the space you need and never pressure you to talk about something you might not be ready to.

Sessions are not always straightforward, we might simply talk one week, next week we might try a creative exercise, there might be tears and also laughter. If I think you might find a certain bit of counselling theory helpful, I will share this with you.

I like to check in with you regularly to see how you are finding our work together, so that I can make sure you are getting what you need from our sessions.

What to do next

You can get in touch with me by filling in the contact form and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.

We can then have a brief phone conversation to get a sense of each other and you can tell me what you are hoping to get from therapy. I will explain the way I work and how we might use our sessions together so you can decide if I'm the right counsellor for you.

Normally we would have weekly or fortnightly sessions. If you do shift work and can't commit to the same time each week/fortnight we can work around that.

Finding the right counsellor is important so I would encourage you to speak with a range of therapists before deciding who you feel most comfortable with.
