What to Expect

What sessions look like

I normally begin by asking if there is something specific you want to talk about and let you take the lead. I don't give specific advise on what you should do, but will work together with you on finding ways to manage whatever it is that's distressing for you or holding you back. You might not always know what to talk about and that's absolutely fine. I will give you the space you need and never pressure you to talk about something you might not be ready to. Sessions are not always straightforward, we might simply talk one week, next week we might try a creative exercise, there might be crying and there might also be laughter. I like to check in with you regularly to see how you are finding our work together, so that I can make sure you are getting what you need from our sessions.

What to do next

You can get in touch with me by filling in the contact form and I'll get back to you as soon as possible. We can then have a brief phone conversation to get a sense of each other and you can tell me what you are hoping to get from therapy. I will explain the way I work and how we might use our sessions together so you can decide if I'm the right counsellor for you. Normally we would have weekly sessions, but if that doesn't work for you we can also look into a different frequency.

Finding the right counsellor is important so I would encourage you to speak with a range of therapists before deciding who you feel most comfortable with.
